(sits'mark'), n. Skiing 1.) a sunken area in the snow marking a backward fall of a
skier. 2.) a loosely organized society of skiers, braggarts, drinkers, and usually
obnoxious, but prize-winning hell raisers.
Sitzmark Ski Club is a medium size club with over 80
adult members. Our oldest member is somewhere over 70, and going strong.
We schedule mainly adult outings, but we also schedule multiple family events. We are a long
established club that started in Libertyville, Illinois in 1946, with both single and
married members.
Despite our name, we are much more than a ski club! We
host activities throughout the year. Our year begins in May, and we have
Spring,
Summer, Fall and Winter events, including parties, outings, and lots of fun.
Monthly we have bi-weekly meetings and a "Bar Hop". A typical Summer will
include many Ravinia outings, Golf Outings, Pig Roast, Bike Outings, Tubing,
Camping, and much, much more. In the Fall we have Oktoberfest events,
biking, a Halloween
Party and Christmas Party. In the Spring we wrap up the year with a Year End Banquet,
which highlights the year's events, including pictures and awards. The
awards are presented to the trip leaders, board members, and participants of
"distinction", which can be quite humorous!
For the Skiers and Boarders, we start each year with the
Chicago Metropolitan Ski Council (CMSC) Trip Seminar. The Sitzmark Trip
Chairman and committee meet with a variety of vendors to negotiate the best deals for
our club. By the Fall, Sitzmark is able to offer a variety of Western and Midwestern trips, including weekend and week long
trips.
We also schedule cross-country ski and snow shoe outings both
locally and for weekend excursions.
All of our club activities are open to members, and many are
open to non-members as well.
