BIKING-CAMPING TRIP

Date: June 21-22
Cost: $20/members and $25/nonmembers includes two nights of camping and firewood

Join your fellow Sitzmarkers as we bike The Great River Trail along the banks and bluffs of the Mississippi River. We'll be camping at The Old Blanding Tavern and Campground located 16 miles south of Galena and west of the town of Hanover. Campsites have water and sewage access. Electricity is available upon request. Recently added to the campground is a new washroom with showers(no charge). A boat landing is less than a mile away. Potential stops may include the Alpine Slide at Chestnut Mountain, visit lock and dam nearby, wineries in Galena and antique shopping in Galena. The tavern is also a restaurant with a wide assortment of items on their menu.

The Little Wolf River as a group float or by yourself on this relaxing river. Plan for both a morning and afternoon trip. Campground has gameroom fro kids and a bar for adults. Restroom and showers are FREE.

Starved Rock

For those of you who enjoy the colors and cool weather of autumn, come out to gorgeous Starved Rock. If you have never experienced the beauty of this historic park, you are truly missing out on one of our states most scenic getaways. Located near the towns of Utica and Ottawa, it's about a 2 hour drive for most of us. We will be able to quench our thirsts after hiking the many miles of scenic trails. There are accommodations available at the lodge or in one of their cabins. More choices are available in the nearby towns of Utica and Ottawa. Party with the Puppies

With the summer season "off and running" don't miss out on this fun outing with your club. This event is open to anyone 18 years and older.

On Sunday, June 3rd, come out to Dairyland Greyhound Park in Kenosha for a “Party with the Puppies.” Located just East of I-94 off of Rt 158(Exit 342) and across from the Kenosha Airport. We will be meeting at the parking lot just north of the Bass Pro Shop at Gurnee Mills at 10:45 AM and leaving at 11 AM to hand out tickets.

The cost is $12/members and $15/nonmembers with reservations required by May 16th. The cost includes FREE Parking, FREE Admission, FREE Programs and a Free trip to the Buffet. Drinks are separate. First race is at 1 PM.

Whitewater Rafting at Thornton’s
On the Peshtigo River, Athelstane,Wisconsin
 

Dates: June 8,9,10 (Friday-Sunday)

Ready for 5 miles of exhilarating class 3 - 5 rapids?  Sitzmark members are going to Thornton’s Resort, 80 miles north of Green Bay.  Age 12 is the recommended age, but an athletic 10 year old can manage well, with an adult.  This is a self-drive trip, and takes approximately 5 hours.  Car pooling is possible. Please call Amber to reserve a spot (847)445-8314.  Full payment needs to be made by June 6th, cabin deposit is needed by May 11, see rates below.  Saturday raft trips are at 8:45, 12:00 and 3:00.  We are aiming at the noon trip for our group. 

The resort has camp sites, with electric, for $40 for 2 nights for tents, campers or RV’s. There is 1 mobile home/cabin still available that will sleep 8 people, for those who don’t mind sharing space.  It is being held for us until Saturday, May 12th.  It costs $110 per night for 4 people, ($10 for each additional, up to 8 people, so $150 for 8 people, or $18.75 per person, per night) It has 3 bedrooms- one queen bed, 1 full bed, 2 twin beds, and a queen fold out bed in the living area.  IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO STAY IN THE CABIN, PLEASE CALL AMBER BY FRIDAY THE 11TH SO SHE CAN MAKE A PERMANENT RESERVATION (847) 445-8314.   A $28 per person non-refundable deposit for the cabin is due by 5/11.

Thornton’s provides a 4 person raft, paddles, helmets, life jackets, “Farmer John” style wetsuits and wet boots (you can bring your own if preferred) You can also wear a windbreaker/pants for an additional layer.  A bus will take us to and from the put-in and take-out points, so you can keep towels and dry clothes there.  One person inflatable kayaks, and 6 and 8 person rafts are also available.

We will be able to quench our thirsts after hiking the many miles of senic trails. There are accommodations available at the lodge or in one of their cabins. Sitzmark Goes Trap Shooting

For those who have always wanted to try trap shooting or just enjoy the sport, here is your opportunity. On Saturday Nov 19th, at 1p.m., there will be a trapshooting event at Winchester Gun Club in Franksville, WI. We will be doing 2 rounds of trap. The cost will be $26. This will get you 2 rounds of trap, ammo, and gratuities. If you don’t have a gun, don’t worry, we will have guns available for everyone to use. If you have a shotgun and are interested in using your own gun, let us know to make sure we have the correct gauge of ammo.

Directions: To get to the gun club, head north on 94. Exit at Hwy K (2 exits south of 7 mile rd). Turn left at the stop sign to go under the hwy and then turn right on the frontage road. The club is located about ½ mile on the left. They have a nice clubhouse to retire to and trade shooting stories. The clubhouse has limited food and a bar.

NOTE: Anyone seen drinking before they have shot will not be allowed to participate in shooting. Safety is our primary concern. For those who have never shot before or not in a long time, we will have plenty of experienced shooters available to give you some tips and coaching. I would appreciate those interested in shooting to sign up in advance so I have an approximate number of shooters. If interested or you want more details contact Cindy Collins or Bill Westlake.
