Sitzmark participates in the Chicago Metropolitan Ski Council
(CMSC) Alpine
Racing Series which is designed to provide the adult recreational skier of all levels of
skiing abilities, with a chance to compete and experience the thrill of Alpine Racing.
Currently the racing program has 17 classes including 7 women's classes.
The CMSC Alpine Racing Program runs two types of races. A Slalom which tests
technical ability by setting courses consisting of short radius turns. The other is a
Giant Slalom with courses of longer radius turns where a racer reaches higher speeds. A
race consists of two timed runs of particular type with the winner being determined by the
fastest combined time with ties being decided by the fastest first run. Once a year the
racers run side-by-side courses which are called "Duals".
After each race, the racers gather for the awards presentation. During the awards, a
raffle is generally held for prizes donated by program sponsors. The prizes range from
T-shirts to Skis to multi-day lift tickets.
Racing builds camaraderie, while providing friendly competition.
